WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The No. 11 Boston University field hockey team suffered its first road loss of the season on Friday, as William & Mary broke a scoreless tie in the second half and held on for a 1-0 victory at Busch Field. The Terriers move to 5-2 on the year while the Tribe improves to 6-1.

BU held a 7-6 shot advantage, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, while both teams earned two corners.

After a scoreless first half that included two shots on goal - both by the Terriers - the home team scored what was the game's lone goal when Maria Caro lifted a shot from the top of the circle to the net at the 42:10 mark.

All three cards issued in the game were against the Tribe, including a yellow card with 11:52 left in regulation. BU, which tallied four of the game's first five shots, recorded three shots on goal after the Tribe's tally, but was unable to attempt a shot in the game's final 20 minutes.

Sophomore Valentina Cerda Eimbcke did not face a shot on goal in the first half while in the BU cage. Senior Jess Maroney came on at halftime and made two saves in addition to allowing the goal. Catherine Johnson notched six saves in goal for William & Mary.

Both teams entered the contest with 5-1 records, having each started the season 5-0 before losing in their previous game leading up to today's match-up.

BU will return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 18) when it heads west to take on Massachusetts for a 4 p.m. contest.
