PISCATAWAY, N.J. - For the second time in as many games, senior Jacinda McLeod tied the score and then won it early in overtime, as the No. 14 Boston University field hockey team came away with a 2-1 road victory against Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at the Bauer Complex.

After allowing the Scarlet Knights to score on the first shot of the game, BU got an equalizer when McLeod converted off a corner in the 13th minute. Neither team was able to break the draw in regulation, but McLeod capitalized on the first corner of overtime at 73:35 to send the Terriers home with a 2-1 victory.

Junior Ella Gunson assisted on both of McLeod's goals to help BU improve to 2-0 on the young season. Senior goalkeeper Jess Maroney made two saves to pick up the win in her season debut.

The Terriers held a 14-4 shot advantage and earned nine corners while not giving up any.

Cornelia Duffin helped the home team get on the board early when she sent home a pass from Danielle Freshnock just 2:11 into the contest.

Despite being a player down due to a green card on senior Nicole van Oosterom, the Terriers were able to get an equalizer just over 10 minutes later.

On the second of back-to-back corners, Gunson set up McLeod, who found the back of the cage to make it a 1-1 affair at the 12:52 mark.

In the second half, BU recorded eight shots and earned five corners, but was unable to break the draw and the game headed to overtime.

Just over three minutes into the extra session, the Terriers received a corner and took full advantage of it, with Gunson finding McLeod again to lift BU to its second overtime victory of the weekend.

BU will return to action on Friday (Aug. 31) when it visits Providence for a 7 p.m. contest.
