Women's Crews Compete in 40th Head the of Charles Regatta

BOSTON, MA-Three Terrier women's crews put on solid performances at the 40th annual Head of the Charles Regatta that was held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 24.

More than 6,729 competitors from around the world competed in the two-day event that featured 24 different races.

For the Terriers, the Championship Eight placed 11th collegiately out of 42 crews, while the Championship Four was eighth collegiately out of 20 crews. Finally, the Youth Eight was 11th out of 52 entrants.

The Championship Eight finished with an adjusted time of 12:54.163 while their splits at Weld was 5:22.696 and at Cambridge was 10:03.793 for an adjusted time of 12:54.163. The boat had coxswain Cydney Nakama, Lauren Priest in the 8 seat with Amanda Milborne (7), Caitlin Durkin (6), Megan Keyes (5), Stephanie Szabo (4), Anna Sleator (3), Emily Brown (2), and Tess Miller (1).

The Women's Youth Eight finished in an adjusted time of 13:48.972 with splits at Weld of 5:45.299 and at Cambridge of 10:44.806. Mara Smith was the coxswain, while Kari Hill stroked the boat that included Kristen Inglis (7), Maura Kennedy (6), Veronika Karlsson (5), Rory O'Mara (4), Megan Wise (3), Annette Mankus (2) and Megan Berry (1).

The Championship Four boat had Meghan Elwell as the cox with Megan Longo in the four seat, Kate Zultner at three, Andi Patineau at two, and Stephanie Geihe in the bow.

There were some changes this year to the race to accommodate for the strong winds. Rather than starting the Regatta from the usual start point of B.U.'s DeWolfe Boathouse, race organizers launched rowers from the Riverside Boathouse, which shortened the length of the race from 3 miles to 2 ½ miles.
