Radcliffe's varsity heavyweight crew defeated Boston University for the eighth time in the last nine years and, in doing so, retained the Allen-DeWolfe Trophy on Saturday morning on the Charles River. Radcliffe, ranked fifth nationally and second in the East, also topped MIT while raising its spring record to 9-1.
Radcliffe posted a winning time of 6:35.8, one-and-a-half lengths ahead of B. U., which finished in 6:40.3. MIT was clocked in 7:46.3.
With the win, Radcliffe increases its series lead over B. U. to 16-6, while it is now a perfect 16-0 against MIT.
The Radcliffe second varsity (6-3) had the most impressive margin of the morning, scoring a five-length win over Boston University while also fending off a Black and White varsity lightweight crew. Radcliffe was timed in 6:54.9, while the lightweights-ranked second nationally in their division-were next in 6:59.4. B. U. completed the course in 7:14.6.
In other races, Radcliffe won the varsity four along with the first and second novice contests to complete a race-day sweep.
