Terriers Row To Win Over Northeastern For Council Cup
BOSTON, MA-The Terrier women's crew opened a lead in the first 400 meters and never looked back as it rowed to nearly a four-second win over Northeastern in the 25th renewal of their rivalry on Saturday, April 23. Rowing on a foggy morning but in relatively calm water, the Terriers covered the 2000-meter Charles River course in 633.8 while the Huskies were timed in 6:37.6. After having problems with their starts for the first part of this spring season, the Terriers got off to an excellent start against Northeastern. Then, at approximately the 400-meter mark, the Terriers put on a move that gave them a lead. By the 500-meter mark, B.U. led by half-a-length and upped its margin to a length-and-a-half by the 1000-meter point. The Huskies then countered and closed the gap to a length in the final 500 meters, but they could never cover the final margin. It marked the sixth straight win for the Terriers over the Huskies as B.U. captured the Women's Council Cup. Overall, the Terriers have beaten the Huskies 19 times over their 25-year history. The Terriers also won the first novice race with a time of 7:01.4 to the Huskies' 7:05.0. However, Northeastern did win the second varsity race in 6:42.1 to 6:44.2 for the Terriers.
