The Boston University women's rowing team and members of the University's chapter of Habitat for Humanity will hold a fund-raising row-a-thon this Friday (February 28th) at the University's George Sherman Student Union Building.

The event is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. as the Terrier women's crew will row an honor on the ergometer, which is an indoor rowing machine. It is a highly physical and mentally challenging feat.

However, the public is also invited to row on the ergometers, and contests will be held during the six-hour row-a-thon with prizes going to the top rowers among the public. Members of the public will not be asked to row for an hour. Instead, their competition will generally run for a minute or so, as the public will be tested how far and fast they can row for 60 seconds.

"Our team has chosen to do this joint venture with the Habitat organization as a community service project," said Terrier varsity women's rowing coach Holly Hatton. "Our athletes want to support Habitat For Humanity efforts. It's a great cause which touches individuals' lives in a very direct way.

"We are excited to have walk-on participants as well," continued the coach who also said that part of the proceeds from the event will also go towards the B.U. women's rowing program. "They will have an opportunity to win prizes by testing their power on the erg for short distances."
