FAIRFAX, Va. - Finishing as the lone program to medal in all three races, the Boston University women's rowing team took second overall behind Northeastern at its first-ever CAA Championship on the Occoquan Reservoir Sunday morning.

The title came down to the varsity eight race with the Huskies holding a two-point lead after the varsity four and second varsity eight races were completed. Avenging the Council Cup loss earlier this season to the Terriers, Northeastern won the seven-team race with a time of 6:41.8, seven seconds faster than runner-up BU.

The Huskies captured their third title at the fourth-annual CAA Championship with 39 points. BU took second with 34 and was followed by Buffalo (30), Drexel (22), Old Dominion (21), Delaware (15) and George Mason (7).

Coxed by freshman Eline Vermeulen and stroked by sophomore Kerry Kennedy, the Terriers' varsity four boat came closest to winning a gold in a thrilling down-to-the-wire race. Officials had to look at the photos to figure out who won between BU and Buffalo. The Bulls were declared the winner by 0.1 seconds with a time of 7:47.5.

Featuring three All-CAA Team members in senior Cheryl Copson, sophomore Lynn Ratte and senior coxswain Kayla Rivers, BU's varsity eight boat was unable to snap Northeastern's perfect record in the event but did finish ahead of last year's runner-up Buffalo by 2.5 seconds to claim silver.

In the 2V8 race, the Huskies won with a time of 7:01.4. Coxed by sophomore Sarah Specht and stroked by freshman Cydney Marks-Nicholes, the Terriers took third at 7:08.6, finishing 1.8 seconds behind Drexel.

The Terriers will conclude the 2011-12 season in two weeks with the Eastern Sprints in New Jersey on Sunday, May 13.
