Vanderwal Named SuperLeague's Player of the Year

BOSTON - Former Boston University women’s basketball standout Rachael Vanderwal (’06) was recently named the Player of the Year for the 2011-12 women’s Irish SuperLeague season.

Vanderwal served as a co-captain for the University of Limerick team. The point guard led her team to the Irish SuperLeague title as well as the National Cup championship in February. Vanderwal led all players in the championship game with 22 points.

The former Terrier continues her quest to playing in the 2012 Olympics on the Great Britain team, as she has been named to the 18-player training roster. Training camp for Great Britain began on May 5 and the team will play a number of pre-Olympic games against teams including Ukraine, Croatia, Germany, China Australia, France and Canada.

Vanderwal finished her career at Boston University in 2006 as an America East All-Conference First Team honoree, while also leading the Terriers to four straight AE championship game appearances. The 5-10 guard remains in the career top 10 for minutes played.
