Orono, Maine - Julie Veilluex scored a game-high 26 points as the Maine women's basketball team extended its regular-season conference winning streak to 21 games with a 73-65 victory over visiting Boston University at Alfond Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

Avenging its loss to the Terriers in the 2003 America East title game, Maine improved to 10-5 overall and 5-0 in America East play. B.U. dropped to 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.

Senior guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) scored 22 points for the Terriers while junior forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

As two of the league's top defensive teams battled, Maine forced a game-high 22 turnovers, resulting in 28 points. B.U. forced just 13 turnovers and was credited with a season-low five steals.

While 2003 America East Player of the Year Heather Ernest was limited to two points in 11 minutes of action in first half due to foul trouble, Veilluex totaled 16 points before the break. Terhune had 10 first-half points but the Terriers trailed, 33-26, at the half.

B.U. hung within single digits of Maine until Missy Traversi hit a pair of fast break lay-ups to stretch the lead to 55-43 at 8:54.

Terhune drained her sixth three-pointer of the game to cut the deficit to 64-56 at 4:44. B.U. went scoreless over the next three minutes and Maine hit 9-of-10 free throws over the final 1:14 of play to seal the victory.

Ernest finished with 16 points while Melissa Heon added 13 points. Along with Terhune and Norris, junior forward Becky Bonner (Concord, NH) also reached double-figures with 14 points.

B.U. travels cross-town for a game at rival Northeastern on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
