Terriers Take on Stony Brook Saturday
Jan. 17, 2008 Listen Live | Gametracker | Game Notes BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Stony Brook at 1:00 p.m. at Case Gym. The Terriers (8-7, 1-1 AE) will be looking to bounce back from a 59-55 loss at Binghamton, while the Seawolves (6-10, 1-2 AE) recently halted a two-game skid with a 72-65 win over Maine on Wednesday. BU holds a slight 8-7 advantage in the all-time series record with Stony Brook. SBU joined the America East Conference during the 2001-02 season, commencing the series by defeating BU, 67-60, on Jan. 13, 2002. Boston University claimed its first win in the series a month later on Feb. 21, 2002, in a 62-48 decision. During the 2003-04 campaign, the Terriers made it three in a row with a 67-66 home win. That year both games were decided by two points or less, as BU dropped a 72-70 decision on Feb. 25, 2004. Over the past three seasons, the Terriers and Seawolves have met a combined eight times, six during the regular season and two AE conference tournament games. Over the last eight meetings, BU and Stony Brook have split, 4-4, however, the Terriers have won both post-season meetings. Senior Aly Young recorded a career-high 25 points in the Seawolves' victory over Maine, and classmate Dana Ferraro posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds on Wednesday evening. Also notching double figures in the win was freshman Kirsten Jeter, who was 3-for-7 from the field and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe for 13 points. Stony Brook opened its conference slate with two consecutive losses to Vermont, 61-49, and UMBC, 61-56, after going 5-8 in their non-conference schedule. Young and Ferraro lead the squad in points per game with 11.7 and 10.1, respectively, while Ferraro is the team's leading rebounder with 9.4 boards per game. Young is among the top 15 in the conference in field-goal percentage, as she is currently shooting .405 from the field. As a team, the Seawolves are tops in the league in blocked shots (4.80 bpg) and rebounding offense (41.3 pg).
For the Terriers, junior Jesyka Burks-Wiley continues to lead the team as she has all season, with 14.5 points per game and 7.2 rpg. She has posted double figures in 13-of-15 games, including the past six straight. In addition, she has recorded 20 or more points in four games and is third in the conference in scoring. Classmate Christine Kinneary continues to play the point unselfishly, handing out a conference-best 7.07 assists per game. She has been credited with 106 assists through 15 games - 24 more than Vermont's Courtnay Pilypaitis, who ranks second. Following Saturday's game, BU will travel to Maine on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. |
