STORRS, Conn. - The Boston University men’s outdoor track and field team traveled to Storrs, Conn., on Saturday afternoon to compete in the annual UConn Invitational. Saturday’s performance for the men was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.
The team of sophomore Adam Churey, freshman Max Esposito and seniors Barry Graham and Matt Howard combined for a time of three minutes, 18.39 seconds to take first place in the 4x400-meter relay, defeating teams from Brown, UMass, URI and Quinnipiac.
In the 400 meters, Graham placed highest in the event, earning the seventh-place spot with a time of 49.65 seconds. Esposito joined Graham in the event, placing 12th with a time of 51.74. Churey and freshman Jackson Pranikoff also competed in the event, taking 15th (52.55) and 18th (53.90), respectively.
In the 5000 meters, junior Albert Crooker continued his success in the outdoor season, placing eighth with a time of 16:03.33. He was the sole Terrier to compete in the event.
Sophomore Jason Nardella and freshman Mark Mazzochette both placed for BU in the hurdles. Nardella took ninth in the 110-meter version with a time of 15.74, while Mazzochette finished eight in the 400 meters with a time of 57.97.
In the field events, freshman Jordan Cumper started the day off for BU, placing seventh in the pole vault with a height of 3.97 meters. Freshman Mac-Alan Gerard helped the Terriers to another seventh-place finish in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 13.31 meters.
Junior Dan Martin took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 13.45 meters, while sophomore Michael Salem took 13th with a distance of 10.93 meters. Martin led his team again in the discus, earning an eight-place finish with a distance of 42.70. Freshman Chase Carnahan also competed, finishing 11th (39.59).
BU finished competition in the javelin, as junior Andy Beatman took seventh with a distance of 49.72. Carnahan placed again, finishing tenth with a distance of 43.70.
The Terriers will next travel to Philadelphia, Penn., where they will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays beginning on April 26, 2007.
