BOSTON - After pacing the Boston University men’s and women’s track and field teams with first-place finishes at the Georgia Invitational this past weekend, junior David Proctor and senior Marisa Ryan were named America East’s Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Proctor took the individual title in the 800 meters, cruising to a time of 1:50.92. The Rochdale, England, native earned another top-five finish in the 1500 meters (3:38.65), placing second and finishing just .04 seconds shy of first place. Last weekend, Proctor earned first place in the 1500 at the Duke Invitational with a time of 3:44.28. Proctor entered the spring season coming off a successful indoor season where he was named the AE Men’s Track Performer of the Year.
Ryan took home her individual title in the 5000 meters, crossing the finish line in 16:50.59 seconds, qualifying her for the NCAA Regionals. She was the sole competitor to finish the race in less than 17 minutes. It is the second time during the current academic year that Ryan has qualified for post-season competition. During the cross country season, the Farmington, Conn., native finished 9th overall at the NCAA Regionals, advancing her to the championship.
Proctor and Ryan, along with the rest of their Terrier teammates, will travel to Worcester, Mass., to compete in the Holy Cross Decathlon on April 19 and 20.
