BOSTON – The Boston University men’s outdoor track and field team combined for 11 top-five finishes on Saturday afternoon, as the Terriers continued their strong start to the spring season at the Tufts Invitational. Freshmen Eric Ashe and Mac-Alen Gerard, as well as junior Albert Crooker, all led the way with second-place finishes.
In the 5000 meters, Crooker earned the second spot with at time 15 minutes, 50.95 seconds. He was joined by sophomore Tom McLean, who placed fourth with a time of 15:55.36.
Ashe earned his top showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:43.77. Again a Terrier followed close behind, this time senior Greg Sinnott finished fourth with a time of 9:57.21.
In the 400-meter dash, senior Barry Graham helped his team to another impressive showing. Graham earned third place in the event with at time of 49.18. In a similar race, the 200, freshman Alex Baillargeon earned an eighth-place finish with at time of 22.94.
The Terriers also fared well in the hurdles. Sophomore Jason Nardella took home fourth in the 110-meter version (15.59), while freshman Mark Mazzochette earned sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.77).
In the field events, Gerard led his team, earning second place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.44 and fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.60. In the latter event, he was joined by sophomore Kodjo Wilder, who placed seventh (6.42).
Junior Dan Martin showed his strength in the shot put, earning the fifth-place spot with a distance of 14.07 meters. In the discus, freshman Logan Moore placed sixth (41.73), Martin took eighth (40.94), while two other Terriers both broke the 37-meter mark to finish in the top 20.
Junior Andy Beatman added another top-ten finish in the field events, placing sixth in the javelin with a throw of 49.93 meters. In the 4x400-meter relay, BU took the third and fifth spot.
The Terriers will next travel to Durham, N.C., where they will participate in the Duke Invitational on April 6 and 7.
