FAYATTEVILLE, Ark. - Boston University junior David Proctor will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 9-10 at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Proctor enters the meet ranked second in the nation for the mile, and one of only four college athletes to run a sub-four minute mile this season. The preliminary for the men's mile is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Friday.

Proctor set a new school record on Jan. 27, when he ran the mile in 3:59.14 at the Terrier Invitational, beating out 91 other athletes for first place. The time catapulted him to first place in the nation for the mile, which he held until Feb. 24, when Texas’ Leonel Manzano passed Proctor with a time of 3:58.78.

Proctor’s collegiate experience with the mile has been limited, as he’s only competed in the event three times so far during his three-year career. During his rookie campaign, the Rochdale, England native, stayed away from the mile, competing solely in the 1000-meters once and in the 800-meters seven times. He also was part of the first-place 4x800-meter relay team at the America East Championships in 2005.

Last season, Proctor ran a similar story, focusing on the 800- and 1000-meters, with only one dabble in the mile on Jan. 18, when he placed first with a time of 4:17.29, and the 3000-meters, for which he placed seventh on Dec. 3, with a time of 8:52.92.

This season, Proctor has placed first in four different events. On top of is record-breaking mile, he also set a career-high in the 800 with a time of 1:49.58 during the AE meet. It was the first time in his career he broke 1:50.00. He earned another first-place finish in the mile during that same meet, and was also apart of the 4x800-meter relay team that placed first with a time of 7:45.46. Earlier in the season, he placed first in the 1000-meters during a quad meet on Jan. 17, with a time of 2:25.29.

This weekend will be Proctor’s first career visit to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
