METAIRIE, La. - Junior David Proctor was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Proctor earned the honor for a stellar season highlighted by becoming the first Terrier to break four minutes in the mile, as well as anchoring the distance-medley team to a record breaking performance last Friday at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

Proctor’s mile of 3:59.14, set at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27, broke a facility and school record, and propelled him to number on the nation. Proctor ended the regular season second in the mile, beat out only by Texas’ Leonel Manzano.

Proctor also set a career best in the 800 meters this season when he placed first at the America East Championships with a time of 1:49.58. He also took the mile at the event, with a time of 4:06.34. His sub-four minute mile qualified Proctor for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9-10 in Fayatteville, Ark., where he will be the sole competitor from BU.
