Women's Indoor Track and Field Wins America East Title; Men Place Third

BOSTON - Five first-places finishes helped the Boston University men’s indoor track and field team take third place at the America East Championships. Junior David Proctor took the individual title in both the mile and 800 meters to earn AE Track Performer of the Year honors. The men finished with 114 points on the day, helping them improve upon their 2005-06 fourth-place finish.

Proctor ran the mile in 4:06.34, earning his a first-place finish in the mile for the second time this season. Senior Nick Goodman followed in third with a time of 4:07.85, while freshman Eric Ashe placed seventh with a run of 4:10.77. All three times were good enough to qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.

In the 800 meters, Proctor reached a NCAA Provisional mark with a time of 1:49.58, also setting a career best. Junior Pat Hoye placed in sixth behind Proctor with a time of 1:56.20.

Goodman also found success in the 1000 meters, running an ECAC/IC4A qualifying time of 2:27.29. He was the sole Terrier to compete in the event finals.

Senior Matt Howard posted another first-place finish for the Terriers, dashing to a time of 48.02 seconds in the 400 meters. Fellow senior Barry Graham, placed sixth with a time of 49.15 seconds. Although Howard finished highest in the 400 meters, he competed strong in the 200 meters as well, finishing xith with a time of 22.35 seconds.

In the 3000 meters, senior Phil Shaw helped the Terriers earn four points, with a fifth-place finish time of 8:37.26. In the 5000, Shaw did one better, placing fourth with a time of 15:08.34.

The men set a new America East record in the distance medley, where the team of Goodman, Hoye, Proctor and David Polgar placed first with a time of 9:54.59, breaking UMBC’s time of 9:59.52, set in 2006. BU posted another top-team finish in the 4x800-meter relay, when Ashe, Goodman, Polgar and Proctor teamed up complete the race in 7:38.27. In the 4x400, Howard, Graham, freshman Adam Churey and senior Keith Buchanan, all teamed up to finish third with a time of 3:18.79.

In the triple jump, freshman Mac-Alen Gerard placed highest for BU, earning the fourth-place spot with a leap of 14.00 meters.

Two Terriers placed in the top ten in the shot put, as freshman Logan Moore finished fifth with a throw of 14.63 meters. He was joined by junior teammate Dan Martin, who placed eighth wit a throw of 14.15 meters. Moore’s second place showing in the heptathlon (4596) led BU, as junior Greg Daggett finished just behind in third (4466).

The team will take the week off, before participating in the New England Championships held at the Track and Tennis Center on Feb. 23 and 24.
