Howard Named America East Track Performer of the Week
BOSTON - After pacing the Terriers with three top-ten finishes during their last two outings, senior Matt Howard (San Antonio, Texas) was named America East Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Howard earned his top finishes competing in three different events, including the 55-meter dash, and the 200- and 400-meters. During BU’s multi-team meet at the Track and Tennis Center on Feb. 5, Howard led his team with two first-place finishes. In the 55, Howard beat out competition from Boston College, Providence and MIT to take the race with a time of 6.79 seconds. He also took first in the 200 meters with a time of 22.33 seconds, setting a new season best. During the Terrier Invitational a week before, Howard ran the race in 22.39 seconds. Howard followed up his strong performances with a ninth-place run in the 400 meters during the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. His time of 48.33 seconds put him ahead of 153 other competitors. Before the Valentine meet, Howard had secured two first-place finishes in the 400. During the Harvard Invitational, he set a season-best, with a time of 49.75, and also won the event again during BU’s home opener on Jan. 17, with a time of 48.89. Howard and the rest of the Terriers will look to continue their success when both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams compete in the America East Championships on Feb. 16 and 17 at the TTC. Last year during the conference meet, the women took first place, while the men finished fourth.
