BOSTON - The Boston University men’s and women’s track and field teams host their annual Valentine Invitational beginning with the men’s competition on Friday, Feb. 9, at 11:05 a.m. at the Track and Tennis Center. Senior Nick Goodman enters Friday’s meet with a fifth-place seed in the mile. The women’s competition is set to begin the following day at 11 a.m. Junior Megan LaBella and sophomore Katie Weider enter the race seeded fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and third in the 500 meters, respectively.

Competition for the Valentine Invitational begins just a mere five days after the Terriers competed in a home meet against Boston College, MIT, New Hampshire, Northeastern, and Providence on Feb. 5.

The women took home two one-two finishes during the meet, as seniors Abbey Sadowski and Amy Dannwolf finished one and two, respectively, in the 1000 meters with times of 22:55.49 and 2:55.95. In the triple jump, a similar situation occurred. Freshman Whitney Ford placed first with a distance of 11.49 meters and junior Camille Hazelwood finished second, leaping to a distance of 11.46.

On the men’s side, senior Matt Howard led the way, taking first in both the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.79 seconds and the 200-meter dash (22.33). Goodman added another top finish for BU, placing first in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:25.09. In the field events, freshman Mac-Alen Gerard took home first place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.77 meters.

Last year at the Valentine Invitational, junior Tahari James led the women, placing third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.41 meters. James was also a member of the Distance Medley team that finished first out of 18 teams with a time of 11:31.45. Weider also performed well last season, placing eighth in the 500 meters (1:17.34).

For the men it was Jun Dambara who led the way. During his rookie campaign, he tied for second place in the high jump with a height of 1.9 meters. Junior David Proctor also showed well, finishing sixth out of 148 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.94. Barry Graham helped the Terriers to another top-ten finish, placing eighth out of 140 runners in the 400 meters (43.44).
