CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Boston University men’s and women’s cross country teams were both projected to finish fourth at the Patriot League Championships, the conference office announced Thursday. The poll was voted on by all 10 league coaches and sports information directors.

The men’s squad earned one first-place vote and 115 points, just six points behind third-place American (121). Navy (153) earned nine first-place votes and finished two points ahead of defending champion Lehigh (151), which received 10 first-place votes. Army (100), Bucknell (90), Colgate (59), Holy Cross (46), Loyola Maryland (36) and Lafayette (29) rounded out the poll.

On the women’s side, BU accumulated 116 points, edged by Army (117) for third place. Navy was a unanimous choice to repeat as Patriot League champion, receiving all 18 first-place votes from its peers. Bucknell came in second place with 144 points and two first-place votes, as coaches and sports information directors were not permitted to vote for their own school. Rounding out the poll were Lehigh (101), Loyola University Maryland (76), Colgate (70), Lafayette (44), Holy Cross (42) and American (28).

The men’s squad will hope to repeat the success of last season when the Terriers finished ninth as a team at the NCAA Northeast Regional, the highest finish among Patriot League teams. Junior Rich Peters is the lone conference returnee to have competed at the 2012 NCAA Championships and is one of the favorites to capture the Patriot League title. In addition to Peters, the Terriers boast nine returnees from last season’s squad.

Senior Monica Adler will be one of the favorites on the women’s side at the conference championship, which will be hosted by Lafayette College at Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex in Easton, Pa. on Nov. 2. She won the New England Championship last year in her first season on the cross country team. Like the men’s team, 10 harriers will return for the women’s squad in 2013.

The Terriers will begin their 2013 campaign on Sept. 7 when both teams travel to Bryant to compete in the Nassaney Invitational.
