Women's Cross Country Places Third at New England Championship; Men Finish Ninth

BOSTON - The Boston University women's and men's cross country teams finished third and ninth, respectively, at the New England Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park on Saturday. Senior Andrea Walkonen finished first in her third consecutive race with a 17:36 finish time. Sophomore Eric Ashe was the first member of the men's team to cross, finishing 11th overall with a 25:30 finish time. Quinnipiac and Amherst finished the 5k race ahead of the Terrier women, who had four runners place in the top 20. After Walkonen, senior Anne Wighton finished 10th (18:38), senior Jessica Cickay finished 17th (18:49) in her first race of the season with the team, sophomore Sarah Mosser finished 20th (18:54), freshman Emma Reed finished 39th (19:15) and junior Katie Weider placed 148 (20:30). On the men's side, Brown, Massachusetts-Lowell, Massachusetts-Amherst, Boston College, Williams, Stonehill, New Hampshire and Amherst finished the 8k race before BU. After Ashe, senior David Proctor finished 24th (25:52), senior Jacob Laroe finished 30th (25:55), senior Nick Goodman finished 103rd (25:52), senior Albert Crooker placed 116th (27:06), senior Pat Hoye finished 154th (27:44) and sophomore David Polgar placed 167th (28:03).
In the sub-varsity races, junior Tom McLean finished 67th (27:45) and freshman Ken Haltom placed 94th (28:11) on the men's side, while freshman Katie Bauler finished 149th (22:27) for the women. |
