FAIRFAX, Va. - The Boston University wrestling team closed out the CAA Duals with a win and two losses on Saturday, posting a narrow 18-17 win over James Madison before falling to host George Mason and Old Dominion. Whitaker came through with a fall in the fifth minute of his 149-pound bout against Brian Kibler to give BU a lead it would not relinquish, depsite a strong challenge by the Dukes. Leading 9-7, the Terriers reeled off three straight wins, as seniors Justin Blumenthal (157) and Chris Tripp (165) posted victories along with Tripp (174) to push the team's lead to 18-7. James Madision closed out the match strong with three consecutive wins of its own, but freshman James Connors held steady in the heavyweight bout, falling by a 3-0 margin to allow the Terriers to sneak by with an 18-17 victory. A late rally against the host Patriots fell just short, as the Terriers were faced with an 18-6 deficit before Tripp and classmate Tom Sforza posted back-to-back pins to draw even at 18 apiece. However, a BU forfeit at 197 put the match back in George Mason's hands before the Patriots closed out with win at heavyweight to post an 27-18 victory. In the nightcap, Old Dominion proved to be too much for BU, winning seven of the 10 bouts. Whitaker, redshirt freshman Mike Roberts (149) and Tripp all secured victories for the Terriers. BU will return to action on Friday, Jan. 27, when it welcomes Drexel to Case Gym for a dual beginning at 7:30 p.m.
