Wrestling Posts 30-16 Victory over Sacred Heart in Dual Opener
BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team took control early and went on to post a convincing 30-16 win over conference foe Sacred Heart on Friday evening at Case Gym. BU’s Alex Brown won by pinfall, while A.J. Detwiler claimed a 17-0 technical fall to help guide the Terriers to victory in their dual opener. Sacred Heart drops to 2-1 in the CAA. After taking the first match by way of forfeit, the Terriers’ Joey Whitaker posted a 7-3 decision in the second match, moving the BU lead to 9-0. In the third match, Carlo Ferrandino was down through the first two periods, but made a valiant comeback going from a 6-2 deficit with two near falls and went on to post a 13-10 decision over Sacred Heart’s Cory Dunn. At 149, Mike Roberts gave the Terriers a commanding 15-0 lead with an 11-5 decision over Sacred Heart’s Chris Davis. Roberts controlled the match right out of the gates and never relinquished the lead. A.J. Detwiler jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period, while nearly pinning Michael Hartman once in the second before earning two more takedowns for the 17-0 technical fall. The win extended the Terriers’ lead to 20-0. After going down 4-0 in his match at 165, CJ Inglin rallied in the second period to pin SHU’s Sherwood Fendryk at 5:13. BU’s Alex Brown never trailed and picked up a major decision over Jed Giguere with a 13-4 win. Sacred Heart claimed a major decision at the 184-weight class when Andrew Silber posted eight unanswered points over BU’s Carmen Rondash. In the 197-bout, Sacred Heart’s Kevin Fox pinned Jim Connors in 39 seconds to move the score to 30-10. BU’s Orey Hall forfeited the heavyweight bout, rounding out the final scoring to 30-16.
