BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team fell to Buffalo, 20-15, in its season-opening match on Friday night (Nov. 5) at Case Gym.

Sophomores Hunter Meys and Kyle Czarnecki and juniors John Hall and Freddy Santaite recorded wins for the Terriers.

Meys pinned Buffalo's Brian Sheehan just 1:12 into the match, while Czarnecki posted a 3-1 upset of 17th-ranked John-Martin Cannon. Hall and Santaite recorded 9-5 and 3-2 decisions, respectively.

Santaite's win came against Kevin Smith in a match-up of wrestlers who were both ranked as high as 13th in the country in the preseason rankings.

The match started at 184, where Bran Crudden made his Terrier debut and wrestled tough before dropping a 3-1 decision to No. 16 Jimmy Hamel. Hall followed with his victory before freshmen Kevin Innis (285) and Bubba McGinley (125) fell 6-2 and 8-6 (sv) in their first collegiate matches.

The Terriers trailed 9-6 after Santaite's victory, but the visiting Bulls then reeled off three straight wins to take a commanding 20-6 lead.

BU will return to action on Saturday (Nov. 6) for matchups against Bloomsburg, Bridgewater State and Southern Maine beginning at 11 a.m.
