EASTON, Mass. - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams each competed at the New England Championships this past weekend at Stonehill College.

The men's team placed 16th with a total of 15 points while the women's squad tallied six points to place 30th.

On the men's side, freshman Alec Olson placed eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:22.16. Senior Robert Gibson finished ninth (15:00.55) and freshman Kevin Thomas (15:10.77) in the 5,000m run. Sophomore Stuart Ross had a time of 1:53.30 in the 800m run while classmate Ben Ravetz ran a time of 3:56.57 in the 1,500m run.

In the field events, junior Nat Hinckley took third in the decathlon with a personal-best 6003 points. Senior Sam Wuest was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters and classmate Sam Arsenault finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.65 meters. Sophomore Michael Maloof was 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.93 meters.

On the women's side, senior Danielle Bowen finished sixth in the 5,000m run with a 17:34.65 while freshman Michelle Sumner placed 11th in that event with a time of 17:50.28. Junior Carolyn Maynard competed in both the 200m dash (25.48) and the 400m dash (56.59) while senior Julia Mirochnick had a time of 1:06.67 in the 400m hurdles.



In the 4x400m relay, Mirochnick, Maynard, sophomore Amber Muhammed and freshman Jade Paul combined to finish sixth with a time of 3:52.02. Sophomore Ashli Tagoai finished the 1,500m run with a time of 4:43.31. In the field events, junior Sarah Dillard was 10th in the discus (37.21m) and also competed in the hammer throw (42.84m) with senior Susan Ottey (40.37m).

BU also has athletes competing in the ECAC and IC4A Championships this weekend, with both of those events scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
