The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams began their outdoor season this past weekend at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
On the men's side, graduate student Zachary Ray was second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.16 seconds, which bested the previous meet record, and seventh in the 110m hurdles (14.38). Junior Stephen Vitale also had a top-10 finish in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 53.44 seconds.
Senior R.J. Page finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.54 seconds and senior Elliot Lehane was 10th in the 1,500m run (4:00.88). The 4x200m relay team of Ray, Vitale, freshman David Lagerberg and senior Tewado Latty finished sixth with a time of 1:27.24.
In the field events, senior Sam Arsenault finished sixth in the high jump (1.85m) and classmate Adam Weaver was sixth in the pole vault (4.15m). Freshman Reuben Horace had a toss of 55.53 meters in the hammer throw to finish ninth.
On the women's side, sophomore Tessa Runels earned the lone Terrier victory with her first-place performance in the triple jump (12.35m). She followed that up with a fourth-place showing in the long jump (5.59m).
Three seniors earned top-10 finishes, including Shelby Walton, who finished fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.60 seconds. Classmate Nikko Brady placed sixth in the 100m hurdles with a mark of 14.11 seconds and Julia Mirochnick was ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:04.36).
Brady, Walton, sophomore Gemma Acheampong and junior Carolyn Maynard combined to place ninth in the 4x100m relay (47.31). Freshman Shelby Stableford placed eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:42.30.
After a weekend off, BU will be reperesented across the nation at several different meets. Terrier athletes will compete at the Texas Relays, Raleigh Reays, Stanford Invitational and Snowflake Classic.
