BOSTON – The Boston University men’s track & field team is in third place after one day of competition at the America East Championships at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
The Terriers earned 24.50 points and trail just Binghamton (57) and Albany (46.50). New Hampshire sits in fourth place, followed by Maine (16), Stony Brook (9), UMBC (8), Hartford (6) and Vermont (4).
BU saw four impressive performances in the prelims of the 200m dash, as R.J. Page (21.60), Tewado Latty (21.89), Duran Ward (21.97) and Joel Senick (22.00) all posted ECAC-qualifying times. Page, Latty and Senick also bested all other competitors in prelims for the 60m dash, 200m dash and 500m dash, respectively.
Junior Robert Gibson finished fourth in the finals of the 5,000m run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 14:32.87. The distance medley team of Brian Greenfield, Joe Greenspun, Colin Lee and Billy Whelan earned a sixth-place finish worth two points and a spot in the ECAC Championships.
Sophomore Blake Edwards placed second in the long jump (7.28m) to earn eight points, while Nikolaos Farmakidis and Adam Weaver each earned points in the pole vault. Michael Maloof finished seventh in the weight throw to pick up a pair of points.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 18) for the second and final day of competition.
