BOSTON - Thanks to a blistering mile run by sophomore Rich Peters, the Boston University men’s track & field team opened its indoor season with a second-place finish at the Multi-Team Meet on Thursday night at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Peters can lay claim to the fastest indoor one mile run time in the world so far this year, as he finished the event in 4:00.13. He was one of three Terriers to win events, as senior Robert Gibson and sophomore Blake Edwards also reaped first-place laurels.
The Terriers tied UMass-Lowell for the second spot with 80 points, just nine points shy of first-place Sacred Heart. Boston College finished fourth (55), while Colgate was fifth with 30 points.
Edwards was dominant for the Terriers, as he won both the long jump (7.04m) and the triple jump (13.62m).
Gibson was tops in the 3000-meter run, as he finished the event with a time of 8:18.60. Junior Stephen Vitale did well in the 400m dash, as he crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 48.59.
BU will return to action on Jan. 28 when it hosts the Terrier Invitational at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
