BOSTON - The Boston University men's track team had a strong showing in the field events at the Multi-Team Meet at the Track and Tennis Center Thursday, taking the top three spots in the shot put and second in the long jump. On the women's side, five of the top ten spots in the 55m dash belonged to Terrier runners.

However, despite strong showings in individual events, both BU teams placed third out of three teams. The men posted a score of 22 points behind Sacred Heart (103) and Boston College (64). The women's team suffered a similar fate, scoring 23.5 points while falling to Boston College (94) and Sacred Heart (52.5). The results include events in which the Terriers had no participants.

Junior Jan Bicanic (15.81m) had the best mark in the shot put, followed by freshman Dan Withrow (14.28m), senior Dan Martin (14.23m) to round out the top three spots. Sophomore Chase Carnahan placed sixth with a 12.10m throw. Sophomore Kodjo Wilder took second place in the long jump with a 6.29m leap, while sophomore Jordan Cumper captured fifth with a 3.81m mark in the pole vault.

The men also had strong showings in several of the running events in which they competed. In the 55m dash, sophomore Max Esposito placed third with a 6.78s mark, followed by sophomore Gerard Mac-Alan (6.84s, 4), senior Chadd Steinhauser (6.85s, 5), Wilder (7.07s, 7), sophomore Jason English (7.08, 10) and freshman Tyler Ellis (7.08, 10). Steinhauser (22.53s) also finished third in the 200m dash, along with Esposito (23.06, 6), English (24.23, 11), Ellis (24.35, 12) and Carnahan (24.37, 13). Sophomore Mark Mazzochette's 1:08.24 time in the 500m dash earned him seventh place, followed by junior Joe Pike's 1:10.28 finish, good for 12th. Freshman Ken Haltom ran a 4:20.59 mile for a fourth place finish, with freshman James Weider coming in behind at 4:30.57 in seventh place. Sophomore David Polgar had a 2:36.40 mark in the 1000m, barely edging out the opposition for a fourth place finish, while junior Tom McLean placed fifth in the 3000m with a 9:12.16 time.

 

 

The women's side had an impressive showing in the 55m dash, as freshman Laura Martin finished third with a 7.42s mark, followed by freshman Alex Jackson (7.52, 4), senior Alyssa Fanucci (7.53, 5), freshman Amanda Howard (7.56, 6), and senior Edwina Clark (7.99, 7). Terrier runners also grasped four of the top seven spots in the 200m dash, headed by Martin in fourth (25.49), followed by Howard (26.11, 5), senior Erin Catarius (26.25, 6), and Jackson (26.36, 7). Sophomore Casey Jordan earned a second place finish in the 500m dash with a 1:18.30 time, followed by sophomore Andrea Tingue (1:22.36) in seventh. Senior Kat Warden (2:14.24) and junior Katie Weider (2:14.26) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 800m run. Junior Rebecca Marshburn was the lone BU runner in the 55m hurdles, placing fourth with a 8.77s time.

Freshman Karly Neveu's 1.62m effort in the high jump earned her second place, while senior Megan LaBella tied third at J1.57m. Sophomore Mimi Maritz placed second in the pole vault at 3.35m, followed by sophomore Fiona Romeri, who tied for third with a J3.20m mark. In the shot put, Labella (9.87m) and Neveu (8.33m) placed seventh and eighth respectively.

The next meet for both teams is the Terrier Invitational, which will be held at the Track and Tennis Center on Friday, Jan. 25.
