Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season With 6-1 Loss To Assumption

BOSTON - The Boston University men's tennis team opened its fall season with a 6-1 loss to Assumption College at the B. U. Tennis Courts on Thursday, Sept. 18. Freshman Barrett Wolf (Boca Raton, Fla. / Spanish River) was the only Terrier to record a win, gutting out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Assumption freshman Dave Marshall at No. 2 singles.

The Hounds (2-0) won the doubles point after taking all three doubles matches. B. U. seniors Geoffrey Wagner (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Lasher) and Adam Siegel (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury), teaming up at No. 1 doubles, fell to Marshall and sophomore Michael Goldman, 8-6. The Terriers' No. 2 doubles team of Wolf and junior Nick Ganias (Worcester, Mass. / St. John's) fell to Assumption freshman Matt Stopp and junior James Newman, 8-1. Junior Manuel Bulauitan (Manhosset, N. Y. / Paul D. Schreiber) and senior Topher Bertone-Ledford (Goshen, N. Y. / Goshen) lost, 8-2, to senior Alex Madrigal and junior Cory Erikson.

Assumption's Goldman defeated Wagner at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Stopp bested Bulauitan, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, and Madrigal defeated Ganias at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 6 matchup of Erikson and B. U. sophomore Abbie Behar (San Diego, Calif. / Bonita Vista) ended in an 8-1 final.

B. U. next played at the Harvard Invitational on Sept. 19-21.
