CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A total of 131 Boston University student-athletes from 10 teams the compete during the winter and spring were named to the America East Conference’s Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
To earn Academic Honor Roll status, a student had to earn a grade point average of 3.0 for the spring semester. In addition, 59 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
For the second straight year, the men’s track and field team led the way with 28 members earning Academic Roll Honors. The women’s track and team followed with 24 student-athletes placed on the honor roll. The women’s swimming and diving team had 16 members on the honor roll, along with 15 from women’s lacrosse, 14 from men’s swimming and diving, 10 from softball, eight from women’s basketball, seven from women’s tennis, five from men’s tennis and four from men’s basketball.
The women’s track and field team led the way with 13 members on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll while men’s track and field followed with 12 members. The women’s swimming and diving team placed nine on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, along with six from women’s lacrosse, five from women’s tennis, four from men’s swimming and diving, four from women’s basketball, two from men’s tennis, two from softball and two from men’s basketball.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference’s 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors and sports information directors. Additionally, a scholar-athlete, someone who distinguishes himself/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the America East Academic Cup, which honors the America East institution with the highest average cumulative GPA among its student-athletes.
