BOSTON -
The Boston University men's tennis team will enter the 2009 America East men's tennis championship as the No. 4 seed and will face Hartford Friday at 3 p.m. on Yale's campus in New Haven, Conn. The Terriers have advanced to the title match 10 times in program history, claiming the league crown in 1988, 1993, 1994 and 1996.
Last season in the tournament, the Terriers swept Hartford, 4-0, in the opening round before falling to eventual champion Binghamton in the semifinals and then Stony Brook in the consolation match. Current student-athletes Tim Sichler, Jeff Chudacoff and Miron Nissim each posted wins in singles action against UH. Charles Weinstein was leading in his contest when the match was called due to BU reaching four points.
BU and the Hawks have already faced each other once this year back on April 4 at home, a meeting the Terriers won convincingly, 7-0. They swept singles and doubles in their only match of the season against a league opponent.
BU holds a record of 3-15 with four of the losses being decided by one point, while the Hawks only have one win on the season, a 7-0 home victory against Wagner. Chudacoff leads the Terriers in wins with eight total, posting a record of 8-9 at No. 1 singles this season.
The winner of the opening round match will advance to Saturday's play and face No. 1 seed Stony Brook at 10 a.m.
