BOSTON - The Boston University men's tennis team opened its spring dual-match season with a 6-1 win over visiting Fairfield University at the B.U. Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The Terriers began the match by winning the doubles point. Seniors Geoff Wagner (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Adam Siegel (Sudbury, Mass.) defeated the Stags' Stephan Kouri and Colin Torrance, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. B.U.'s No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Barrett Wolf (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Ross Lohr (Newton, Mass.) downed Fairfield's Kevin Nyarady and Jonathan Fernando, 8-4, to take the doubles point.
The Terriers dropped the No. 3 doubles match, as junior Nick Ganias (Worcester, Mass.) and Topher Bertone (Goshen, N.Y.) lost to the Stags' Mike Theile and Zach Morrison, 8-6.
Leading 1-0 after the doubles matches, the Terriers were just as successful in singles play. Wagner defeated Torrance at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1. Wolf followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kouri at No. 2. Siegel made it 3-for-3 after winning a 6-3, 6-2 match over Fernando at No. 3
B.U. freshman Mike Orden won at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2 over Nyarady, while Ganias won his No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-1 over Paul Goldbeck. Lohr was the only Terrier to drop his singles match, as he fell to Morrison, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 5.
