Terrier Swimmers Win 15-of-16 En Route To Win Over Maine
BOSTON, MA-The Terrier men's swimming and diving team, led by three individual first-place finishes by junior Chris Collins (Phoenix, AZ), rolled to a 212-85 win over conference rival University of Maine Black Bears at Faneuil Pool on Saturday, Dec. 6. In all, the Terriers won 15-of-16 events, as they won their second meet of the season. The team is off now until January 4th when it competes in the Forum Classic in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Collins captured the 100-yard backstroke in :57:61, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09:02, and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05:28. What's more, he added additional points as a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay. He teamed with sophomore Ryan Falk (Sarasota, FL), freshman Griffin Moodie (Edina, MN), and sophomore Mike Kelly (Shrewsbury, NJ) to win the event in 1:42.22 Two members of that winning relay-Kelly and Moodie doubled-up by winning two individual events. Kelly won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42:99 and the 100-yard freestyle in :49:33, while Moodie won the 100-yard breaststroke 1:00:96 and the 100-yard fly in 00:54:20. Moodie and Kelly came back in the final event of the meet to join with seniors Brent Bernkrant (Hollywood, FL) Ryo Takano (Ardsley, NY) to win the 200 freestyle relay in 3:23.62. Another double winner was freshman Mike Bear (Arlington, VA), who won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:02:87 and the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:18:37. The Terriers swept the one- and three-meter dives behind the efforts of junior Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, IL), who took top honors in the one-meter event with 282.37 points and the three-meter with a score of 272.92 points. Junior James Yon (Pittsfield, MA) and sophomore Bryan Martinez (Chelmsford, MA) took second and third, respectively, in the two events.
