ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Boston University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were recognized as the sport winners for the highest GPA in the America East as announced at the league’s annual awards dinner Thursday evening in Annapolis, Md.

In a season in which the BU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept the conference championships for the first time since 1994, both teams registered the highest GPAs among all other America East swimming and diving programs. The Terrier women boasted a 3.24 team GPA while the BU men posted a 3.02 team GPA.

Earlier this year, the Terriers led the league with eight student-athletes being recognized with America East All-Academic Honors. On the women’s side, seniors Amanda Schmitz and Kristen Connors both earned the honor for the second straight year and were joined by juniors Kara Zebrowski and Katie Radin and sophomore Kendra Cheng. On the men's side, sophomores Jared Scheck, James Sundquist and Wesley Pate all received the honor for the first time.

Overall, BU student-athletes posted an average GPA of 3.03. The University of Hartford claimed the league’s Academic Cup with a 3.16 GPA, the highest of the nine member schools.
