Men's Swimming and Diving Claims 136-87 Victory over Holy Cross

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming and diving team claimed a 136-87 win over cross-state foe Holy Cross on Tuesday evening at BU’s Competition Pool. Brian Lawler won both the one- and three-meter diving events, and the Terriers won 12-of-13 events.

The Terriers opened the dual meet with a win in the 200 free relay with a time of one minute, 27.01 seconds. Griffin Moodie swam the opening leg of the race, followed by Javier Fonseca, James Lands and Even Morris.

Arik Seiler gave the Terriers their second win of the evening, and first individual victory, with a 9:46.48 finish in the 1,000 free. James Lands and Greg Dierksen followed up with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free with times of 1:49.87 and 1:50.13, respectively.

Kyle Berg and Nick Rosenfeld were the top two finishers in the 50 free, extending the Terriers’ lead to 51-20. John Passaro and Ben Kaiser claimed first and second place in the 200 IM with times of 2:03.85 and 2:05.28, respectively.

The Terriers continued to control the pace of the competition taking first, third and fifth in the 100 fly. Seiler picked up his second individual win of the night with a time of 53.96, followed by Javier Fonseca (58.42) and Kevin Melia-Teevan (1:00.56). Lands and Berg made it a 101-40 Terrier lead with a 1-2 finish in the 100 free in times of 50.13 and 50.24, respectively.

Moodie won his second event in the 100 back in 55.28, and Ben Kaiser and Greg Dierksen followed closely behind in 56.99 and 1:00.78.

Brian Lawler continued his domination of the diving events with a first-place finish in the one-meter with 289.575 points. Lawler also won the three-meter dive with 365.55 points. In the final event of the night, the Terriers won the 400 free relay.

BU returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 20, when the Terriers host Syracuse University at noon.
