Men's Swimming Falls to Dartmouth in Dual-Meet Action, 131-102

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming team fell, 131-102, to the Dartmouth College Big Green on Saturday afternoon. Arik Seiler claimed victory in the 100 and 200 free, while the 200-medley relay team took top honors.

The men’s team opened strong with a win in the 200-medley relay event. Ben Kaiser was the team’s leadoff leg, followed by Griffin Moodie, James Lands and Kyle Berg. The team finished in a time of one minute, 39.92 seconds.

In the 1,000 freestyle, Dartmouth took the top three spots, followed by BU’s Michael Bear, finishing in 10:25.87 and John Passaro (10:31.40). Arik Seiler gave the Terriers their first individual win of the meet with a victory in the 200, touching the wall in 1:45.05. Ben Kaiser finished fifth in the event in 1:52.07. With Seiler’s win and Kaiser’s fifth-place finish, the Terriers cut the deficit to 29-24.

Moodie followed up with a third-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.96. Ivan Kovganov placed fifth in his first appearance of the season.

In the 400 individual medley, Greg Dierksen placed third in 4:21.06 and was followed by John Passaro in fourth. Passaro finished in 4:26.75.

In the one-meter dive, Boston University’s Brian Lawler took second with 291.98 points. James Lands claimed BU’s second individual in the 200 butterfly, clocking in at 1:59.04. Dierksen and Kevin Melia-Teevan placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Seiler picked up his second win of the day with a winning time of 48.42 in the 100 free. Evan Morris placed third in 50.95, while Kovganov was fifth with a time of 52.25. Berg followed up with a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.75.

Kaiser, Dierksen and Lands placed second, fourth and fifth in the 500 free giving the Terriers seven points in that race and moving the team score to 75.

Lawler rebounded in the three-meter dive with 331.20 points in six dives.

In his third event of the day, Moodie placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:17.25 time. Javier Fonseca and Passaro came in fourth and fifth in the event.

In the final event of the day, the 200 free relay team of Evan Morris, Arik Seiler, Kyle Berg and Ivan Kovganov claimed top honors with a 1:30.02 time.

The men’s team hosts Holy Cross on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., while the women travel to UNH for a double-dual meet with UNH and Northeastern on Monday, Jan. 15.
