BOSTON - Looking for its first win against the nation's top-ranked team since 2009, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit defending NCAA champion North Carolina on Sunday night with action set to begin at 7 p.m.

Competing in arguably the NCAA's toughest road trip of the season, the Terriers (1-2) have already faced three top-20 teams with a 1-0 win at No. 10 Boston College inbetween losses to both No. 16 Wake Forest (3-1) and then-No. 13 St. John's (3-0). BU will now face a program that has made four consecutive College Cup appearances and returns six starters from last year's 21-2-3 team.

Meeting the Terriers for the first time ever, the Tar Heels (2-0) have earned two shutouts this season with five individuals tallying a goal during home wins over Gardner Webb (4-0) and West Virginia (1-0). Goalkeeper Scott Goodwin has only needed to make a combined two saves so far.

Led by 28th-year head coach Neil Roberts, BU last defeated a top-ranked team in St. John's (1-0) back in 2009 and a No. 1 ACC squad in Virginia (1-0) back in 1994. Last season, the Terriers battled with then-No. 1 UConn through 78 minutes before the Huskies finally found the back of the net for the 1-0 victory.

On the offensive end, junior Derek McCaffrey and sophomore Parker Powell have each recorded a goal for the Terriers. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Thomson through three games has a 2.00 goals against average and .648 save percentage.

After facing three consecutive ACC programs, the Terriers will cap the six-game road trip with a return to Big East country, starting with Providence on Friday, Sept. 7.
