2013 MLS Player Combine Central | Rosters
NEW YORK - A four-time America East All-Conference First Team honoree with the Boston University men's soccer team, recent graduate Michael Bustamante ('12) has been invited to participate in the 2013 Major League Soccer Player Combine, the league announced Thursday afternoon. The midfielder will be one of 72 players looking to impress scouts at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Fla., on Jan. 11-15.
Finishing his career ranked ninth all-time at BU in assists with 27, Bustamante will try to become the first Terrier since Samuel Appiah in 2010 to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft. The event will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, in Indianapolis.
Sitting out the 2011 season due to injury, Bustamante returned for a standout season in which he finished tied-for-second on the team with 10 points off three goals and four assists. Highlights included a helper on the golden goal at Stony Brook and a strong defensive effort in the 1-0 win at then-No. 10 Boston College.
Previously named America East Midfielder and Rookie of the Year, he most recently became the fourth in program history to earn a fourth All-Northeast Region award from the NSCAA.
If chosen, Bustamante will become the sixth-ever Terrier to be taken in the MLS Draft and will join another BU alum in the United States' top league.
Selected in 2004 by the New England Revolution, Andy Dorman left the team in 2007 to compete in the Scottish Premier League and later with the Welsh National Team. He mostly recently played for Crystal Palace in England's Championship League before resigning with the Revolution back in November.
