WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman defenseman Matt Grzelcyk (Charlestown, Mass.) of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Grzelcyk earned the primary assist on BU's final two goals in a 3-1 win at Merrimack on Friday and then recorded his first collegiate goal in the Terriers' 4-2 loss to top-ranked Boston College on Sunday.

Grzelcyk enters this Friday's game at Vermont on a four-game point streak, having tallied a goal and four assists during the stretch. He is one of three freshman defensemen in the country currently averaging at least one point per game.

It marks the second straight week that a Terrier has taken home this weekly award, as goaltender Matt O'Connor was the co-recipient last Monday for his 26-save performance in a win at North Dakota.
