2012-13 Roster

BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team and head coach Jack Parker have announced a 26-man roster for the program's 2012-13 season. In addition, Parker has named senior defenseman Ryan Ruikka (Chelsea, Mich.) an assistant captain for this year's squad.

Of the 26 players on this year's roster, 10 are freshmen. A nine-member recruiting class was announced in August and freshman Nick Breed (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) has joined the team as a walk-on. Breed was an all-state forward at Cape Elizabeth High School.

Three players from last year's roster decided to forgo their remaining collegiate eligibility and begin professional careers. Forwards Alex Chiasson (Dallas Stars) and Justin Courtnall (Boston Bruins) each finished up their junior year while defenseman Adam Clendening (Chicago Blackhawks) departed after his sophomore season.

Ruikka, who finished both a dual major bachelor's degree and a master's degree in four years, will begin a second master's as he enters his fifth year with the program. He received a medical redshirt after missing the 2009-10 season due to a knee injury.

Ruikka will assist senior forward Wade Megan, who was tabbed this season's captain at the team's annual banquet back in April. Megan scored a team-best 20 goals as junior in 2011-12.

The Terriers will kick things off at Agganis Arena on Sunday, Oct. 7, for an exhibition contest against the University of Toronto at 1 p.m. Six days later, BU will host Providence in the season opener.
