WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior Ryan Ruikka was honored as one of five Hockey East Distinguished Scholars and joined three other Boston University teammates on the league's 2011-12 All-Academic Team, as announced by the Hockey East office.

Sophomore Anthony Moccia and seniors Ross Gaudet and Grant Rollheiser were also named to the All-Academic Team, which honors all student-athletes in the league who maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in both semesters. Those three Terriers were first-time honorees, while Ruikka was named to the All-Academic Team for the fourth consecutive year.

Hockey East Distinguished Scholars qualify for the accolade by earning a 3.0 grade-point average or better in each of their eight semesters over seasons. Ruikka, Andy Balysky of Providence, Ryan Flanigan of Merrimack, Matt Marshall of Vermont and Mike McLaughlin of Northeastern were the five players in the league's Class of 2012 to earn the prestigious distinction.
