June 22, 2009
Boston Herald -- An enduring connection: Co-induction a fitting honor for BU's Parker, BC's York Jack Parker, who recently earned his third national title as head coach of the Boston University men's ice hockey team, will be honored with Boston College head coach Jerry York by The Sports Museum of New England at The Tradition on Wednesday (June 24) at TD Banknorth Garden. The Tradition, now in its eighth year, is the signature summer celebration of Boston sports, honoring a set of legends whose accomplishments, contributions and qualities of character have helped make Boston the greatest sports city in America. Parker and York are the top two winningest active coaches in college hockey, with 816 and 821 victories, respectively. After Boston College claimed its third national title in 2008, the Terriers responded with their fifth NCAA championship on April 11 with a thrilling game for the ages in a 4-3 overtime triumph over Miami. The legendary coaching duo will be inducted along with Curt Schilling, Troy Brown, Nancy Kerrigan and Sam Jones. To purchase tickets for the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., click here.
