WAKEFIELD, Mass. -
After helping Boston University sweep Merrimack in the Hockey East quarterfinals, freshman goaltender Sean Maguire has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Maguire posted a 30-save shutout in a 3-0 victory over Merrimack on Friday before leading BU to the sweep on Saturday with a 39-save performance in a 5-3 win. He recorded a .958 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average over the weekend.
His shutout on Friday was his second in as many starts, as he became the first BU goaltender since John Curry in 2006-07 to post back-to-back shutouts twice in a season. Maguire's shutout skein of 151:22 that came to an end on Saturday was the fifth longest in program history.
A two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week, Maguire is now 12-7-0 on the season with a .924 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average.
Maguire and the 17th-ranked Terriers will take on No. 4 Boston College on Friday (March 22) in the conference semifinals at TD Garden. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
