Inside BU Hockey - Episode 17

Looking to right the ship after suffering its third straight loss Monday, the No. 13 Boston University men's ice hockey team (13-12-1, 10-7-1 Hockey East) opens a weekend series against Maine (8-15-5, 4-10-5 HE) at Alfond Arena on Friday in a contest that will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Terriers are just 1-5-1 in their last seven games, their worst stretch since an identical 1-5-1 skid from Oct. 31-Nov. 21, 2009. That stretch began with a four-game losing streak, something BU will be looking to avoid on Friday.

No. 7 Terriers Post 1-0 Victory over Maine at Agganis
The No. 7 Boston University men's ice hockey team closed out the first semester with a 1-0 victory over Maine on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena.

In the series opener at Agganis Arena on Dec. 8, the Terriers earned a 1-0 victory over the Black Bears.

In BU's 10 games since the turn of the new year, seven of them have been decided by a single goal or resulted in a tie.

The Terriers and Black Bears have played 117 times since first meeting in the 1923-24 season, and BU holds a 57-48-12 edge (.538), including a 17-6-4 advantage since the beginning of the 2005-06 season.

BU is 21-22-6 (.490) in the 49 match-ups at Alfond Arena with an impressive 7-1-2 mark in the last 10 visits. The road team is 4-1-2 in the last seven meetings in league play.

Since falling to BU in December to close the first semester with a 2-11-2 record, Maine has rebounded with a 6-4-3 mark including a weekend road sweep at Boston College on Jan. 25-26.

Most recently, the Black Bears had a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) snapped in a 3-0 loss at Vermont on Saturday.

Maine's offense ranks next to last in the nation, averaging just 1.71 goals per contest.

Senior Joey Diamond leads the team in points (15) and goals (10) while freshman Devin Shore (2g, 11a) and sophomore Connor Leen (7g, 5a) have added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

All three of Maine's goaltenders have appeared in at least six games, but junior Martin Ouellette has taken over the starting job and boasts a .924 save percentage and 2.16 goals-against average.

In December's meeting, freshman Sean Maguire earned his second consecutive shutout with a 28-save performance and junior Garrett Noonan provided the lone goal on a power play just 7:13 into the contest.

The teams will wrap up the weekend series on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast by NESN.
