BOSTON - Alumnus Florian Mennigen is the fifth BU men's rower to earn a place at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which begin on August 8, 2008. Mennigen will row as the six seat in the German 8+, the German Olympic Committee announced today. He joins BU's Meindert Klem (Netherlands), Jozef Klaassen (Netherlands), Will Daly (USA) and Ted Nash (USA) at the XXIX Olympiad.

The German Olympic Committee had until July 15 to make changes to a roster set on June 23. Mennigen was elected the boat's captain in the first week of July and has now officially secured his spot on the German Olympic team.

Mennigen will row with bow Florian Eichner, 2 Sebastian Schmidt, 3 Matthias Flach, 4 Philipp Naruhn, 5 Jochen Urban, 7 Kristof Wilke, stroke Andreas Penkner and cox Peter Thiede.

Men's 8+ racing begins on Sunday, August 10 at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.
