BOSTON - Boston University first-year head men's basketball coach Patrick Chambers finalized his coaching staff on Monday, tapping Ross Condon, Brian Daly and Adam Fisher to work alongside him and 13th-year associate head coach Orlando Vandross for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Condon and Daly will serve as assistants, while Fisher will work as director of basketball operations.
"I am thrilled with the makeup of our staff," said Chambers. "It consists of experience, youth and energy. This formula will create a great environment and culture for our players and program. Since forming our staff, I already feel the connection and enthusiasm in our locker room, as we are looking forward to the fall."
A four-year, walk-on member of the Villanova men's basketball team that advanced to three NCAA tournaments between 2003-07, the 23-year-old Condon spent the last two years as the director of basketball operations at Radford University, including the Highlanders' run to the 2009 NCAA tournament as the Big South champion.
A native of Springfield, Va., he returned to his home state following graduation and was responsible for a wide-range of duties involving the day-to-day office operations, including maintaining the recruiting database, coordinating team travel and scouting film exchange. He also served as a staff liaison with the student-athlete academic support office and as the program's camp coordinator.
The 39-year-old Daly joins the Terriers after working the sidelines the past four years as the head coach of the Monsignor Bonner High School boys' varsity team in Philadelphia. A four-year letterman at St. Joseph's (1988-92) playing under then-assistant and now head coach Phil Martelli, he first started his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Monsignor. Named Philadelphia Player of the Year his senior year in high school, he coached between 1996-2002 before serving as an assistant at Arcadia University in 2003.
While working for the first time at the collegiate level, he continued his studies at St. Joseph's and earned his master's in education. In 2005, he was hired as the head coach at Monsignor and directed the team to four straight Catholic League playoff appearances. During his time there, he developed players like McDonald's All-America nominee and current Virginia Cavalier, Jeff Jones.
Fisher followed Chambers to BU after working alongside the former Villanova associate head coach the past two seasons as a graduate manager on the Wildcat squad. While earning his master's degree in education leadership, the 25-year-old Jamison, Pa., native worked under two-time Big East Coach of the Year Jay Wright, serving as an assistant recruiting coordinator while helping in film exchange with opponents and conference members.
He joined Villanova for their Sweet 16 run in 2008 and Final Four appearance this past season from nearby Penn State, where he spent three seasons as head student manager and then one season as a graduate manager, assisting with player workouts and handling administrative duties. During the summers in school, he also worked at several basketball camps, including those at Wake Forest, Maryland, Penn State, Georgetown and with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The coaching staff inherit an experienced team this upcoming year, featuring a total of nine seniors and first-team all-America East honorees Corey Lowe and John Holland. BU finished the 2008-09 season with a 17-13 record and placed third in the league standings. The team has already announced that it will be participating in the 2009 O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off, which will be held Nov. 19-22 in San Juan.
