Boston Herald article: BU backcourt at full speed (2/11)
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second time in three weeks, Boston University men's basketball freshman Maurice Watson Jr. has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Earning his third award, the 5-foot-10 guard averaged a double-double of 10 points and 10.5 assists to go with 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a pair of Boston U. wins last week. The Philadelphia native first scored 14 points and added eight assists in a 79-72 win over Maine Tuesday.
He then recorded six points and dished out a career-high 13 assists, the most in America East in nearly two years, in a 79-58 win at Binghamton Sunday. The assists also represented the most by a Terrier since 1989 when 1990 AE Player of the Year Steven Key ('90) dished out 14 in an overtime game. During 1988-89, BU Hall of Famer Jeff Timberlake ('89) tallied 15 in regulation.
Watson, Jr. leads the conference dishing 5.3 assists per game and is 18th in scoring (10.5 ppg). He also ranks ninth in shooting at 46.0 percent.
He along with the rest of the Terriers will next take to the court on Tuesday (Feb. 11) at Vermont with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
