Matt Shaw was promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach in July 2011.
Shaw will be responsible for improving the size, speed, strength and power for the men's basketball, wrestling and men's soccer teams.
Shaw originally came to BU in the January of 2010 as a graduate assistant and oversaw strength and conditioning for men's soccer, wrestling and golf. He also assisted with men's basketball and the swimming and diving programs.
Prior to his stint as a graduate assistant at BU, Shaw interned for South Carolina during the summer of 2010, where he primarily assisted with implementation of the football team's summer and preseason programs. He also worked closely with the men's soccer and track & field teams on their respective summer programs.
From May 2009 to Nov. 2009, he worked with the Harvard strength and conditioning department, assisting with the summer programs for the football, men's and women's ice hockey and men's lacrosse teams.
Getting his start in the strength and conditioning world as an undergrad at BU, Shaw interned under BU strength and conditioning coach Mike Boyle for the 2006-07 season, assisting with men's ice hockey preseason and in-season conditioning program.
Shaw has earned certifications from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Association of Speed and Explosion.
Shaw earned his bachelor of science in health sciences from BU's Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation with a minor in human physiology in January 2010. He also recently completed his master's in physical education and coaching from BU's School of Education in May 2011.
Originally from St. Louis, Mo., and Hingham, Mass., Shaw now resides in Brighton, Mass.
