RING RADIO INTERVIEWS:
BU All-Access Radio Show Interview - April 12, 2008

Bill Ring was hired in January 2007 as the director of development for athletics at Boston University. In this capacity, Ring is responsible for the fundraising and alumni relations activities for BU's 23 varsity athletics programs, as well as an extensive program of more than 30 club sports. In addition to his development responsibilities, Ring also serves as a member of the athletic department's senior staff and is one of just three administrators to serve on the Athletic Director's Strategy and Planning Committee, which guided the department through a year-long strategic planning process.

Under Ring's leadership, the Terriers have undertaken several new fundraising initiatives. Most notably, Ring and his team have increased the number of endowed athletic scholarship commitments by more than 50 percent. Included among these commitments are the two largest individual athletic scholarship gifts in the University's history. Ring has increased significantly the level of communication and transparency with donors through the development of individualized stewardship reports and the creation of the Endowed Athletic Scholarship Luncheon. He also launched an annual career networking seminar for BU's current student-athletes to meet former Terrier athletes and be exposed to various career opportunities.

Ring came to BU following a three-year stint as the associate director of athletic development at Boston College. During his time at BC, Ring identified, cultivated, solicited and stewarded leadership gift prospects, and raised funds for athletic scholarships and facility projects. Among those facility projects was the $27 million Yawkey Athletics Center, a 72,000-square foot facility housing the BC football program and the Office of Learning Resources for Student-Athletes. The Yawkey Center was the first facility on campus to be funded entirely through philanthropic support. In his final two years at BC, Ring and the athletic development team secured more than 80 commitments of $100,000 or greater. In addition to his development work, Ring also was responsible for the sale and renewal of more than 45 luxury suites in Alumni Stadium.

Prior to BC, Ring served for nearly six years in the athletic development office at Georgetown University. He began on "The Hilltop" as the assistant director of Hoyas Unlimited from 1998 through 2001, after which he was promoted to the leadership gifts team where he served as the assistant director of athletic development until 2004. Ring played an integral role in the University's $1-billion Third Century Campaign, in which gifts to athletics exceeded $51 million.

A native of Jenkintown, Pa., Ring graduated from Georgetown University, where he was a four-year letterman and captain of the football team. Currently, Ring serves on the Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors.

Ring lives in West Roxbury, Mass., with his wife, Kathleen, and their daughters, Ellie and Maeve.
