LYONS RADIO INTERVIEWS:
Nancy Lyons returned to the Boston University Department of Athletics in July 2004 and now serves as its Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services. She was additionally named the Department's Senior Woman Administrator in August 2005. She oversees Compliance, Student-Athlete Support Services, Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning. Lyons is the sport administrator for 13 men's and women's varsity teams - men's crew, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, women's golf, women's ice hockey, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's soccer and men's and women's swimming. Her responsibilities extend outside of the Department as the point person for compliance with the NCAA, the Terriers' athletic conferences and the institution. Lyons is the liaison for numerous University departments and serves on several institution-wide and America East committees. Since 2006 she has been a member of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee, and is its chairperson for 2008. She also was named to the NCAA Awards, Benefits and Financial Aid Cabinet in 2008. Lyons was the Tournament Director for the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship, which BU hosted at Nickerson Field before a then-record attendance. She is currently serving in the same capacity for the 2009 Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four, which will be held at Agganis Arena. During her initial tenure with BU Athletics, she served in a number of administrative roles from 1984 through 1986, when she was named the department's Assistant Business Manager. Then, after serving in that position for three years, she was promoted to the Athletic Facilities Manager in 1989. In July 1993, Lyons moved to Southern Connecticut State University, where she was the Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator. In November 1996, Northwestern University named her the Associate Director of Athletics for Intercollegiate Services and Senior Woman Administrator. While there, she was in charge of compliance and served as the liaison for the Department of Athletics with the University's admissions, financial aid and registrar's offices. She also oversaw eight of the University's sports. In addition, from July 2002 until her return to Boston University, she was a member of the NCAA Division I Management Council and was a past member of the NCAA Division I Championships and Competition Cabinet. A 1976 graduate of Bridgewater State College, she received her Ed.M. in policy, planning, and administration from Boston University in 1989. From 1994 through 1996, she did post-graduate work in counseling at Southern Connecticut State University. An ardent runner, Lyons has qualified for and completed 14 Boston Marathons and completed 12 other marathons in various cities. |
